The Ripple Effect

Like the ripple effect created by a pebble in a pond, the ‘ripple’ effect of alcohol goes far beyond the individual and their immediate family.

As a follow up to the 2007 research, The Ripple Effect was re-commissioned by Glasgow City Alcohol and Drug Partnership (ADP) in 2014. The aim of the research was to provide a baseline of the perceived impact alcohol has on 12 communities across Glasgow City.

The research highlighted a range of negative issues and resulted in 14 recommendations based upon actions suggested to improve alcohol related problems in the community.

Work to address the recommendations is being taken forward by a range of partners across Glasgow City.

In October 2018 Glasgow City ADP released the Ripple Effect Informed Community Activity Fund to support local community groups, voluntary groups and organisations to develop work to address the recommendations of the Ripple Effect, by delivering activity between January and March 2019.  Further information on this can be found here.
